Library Accessibility

Our libraries are committed to providing accessible services for all. We offer a range of facilities and resources to ensure a welcoming environment for everyone, including disabled access with ramps and lifts where necessary, disabled and baby change toilet facilities, and designated disabled parking spaces at Blackburn Central Library.

For those with visual impairments, we provide large print books and audio books and also provide a home delivery service for library members who are unable to physically access their local library. We also cater to diverse linguistic needs with reading materials in numerous languages and have a range of books that are formatted specifically for dyslexia. Additionally, our free Wi-Fi service allows you to connect and access digital resources conveniently and for free.

Website Accessibility

This website is run by Blackburn with Darwen Library Services. We want as many people as possible to be able to use it.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • zoom up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • navigate some of the website using just a keyboard
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
